The TerraView Social Policy geoprocessing software is now being made available by the Center for Metropolitan Studies, in partnership with the Image Processing Division of the National Institute of Spatial Research (DPI-INPE) and within the scope of the Space and Society Program, an INPE initiative to get closer to the innovations of the Brazilian Spatial Program in creating tools which better inform the design of public policy in the country.
As a part of the TerraView family of software, developed by INPE, the present application was customized in an enterprising institutional arrangement involving INPE, CEM and GISPLAN, through a business contracted for the development of the product from the free software, having as an objective to offer support to non-specialist users in the area of social policy in areas such as education, health, income transfer and housing.
The free software TerraView is an application constructed from the TerraLib geoprocessing library for the visualization and exploration of geographic data. In this way, the aim of this partnership is to allow researchers, municipal administrative technicians, graduate and post-graduate students among others to utilize technical conditions to produce spatial analyses and interpretations with respect to the social reality of our urban areas.
