| Documentary Em Trânsito now showing at Cine Bombril
Documentary filmmaker, Henri Arraes Gervaiseau, coordinator of the Audiovisual Division on the Center for Metropolitan Studies, is showing at Cine Bombril from May 18. The film offers a human look at the meaning of road traffic in people’s lives.
Sao Paulo has 17 million residents who travel 1512 kilometers daily using varying methods of transport from buses to metropolitan trains. From home to work and vice-versa, people spend hours traveling. It is a lot to waste. Preaching the word of God, reading the newspaper, talking on the phone, enjoying the view, talking to your neighbor and even thinking are things that the 15 people in Em Trânsito do in this suspended moment between one point and the other.
Em Trânsito explores day-to-day lives in road traffic and on collective transport involving anonymous people who leave their homes every day —situated in the eastern and southern zones of the metropolitan region—and work in the greater central area of Sao Paulo. “For these people, as for all the residents of large metropolises, traffic is a significant part of life, not only because of the time spent but because it defines their relationship with the city, access to services and opportunities and influences the network of relationships between people”, says Henri Arraes Gerviseau.
The film follows the trajectory of city residents from a variety of social backgrounds, from their homes to their places of work, showing how they get around the city, what they do during the stretch of time in which they live these experiences of dislocation and the network of relations that the traffic creates. Each character reveals in his own way, how they link these daily experiences with the other spheres of their daily lives.
Em Trânsito won three awards in the Bahia International Journey of Cinema (Best Film, Best Documentary and the OCIC Award). It was also selected for the Gramado Festival, Sao Paulo International Festival of Cinema, the ‘It’s All True Festival’, XXIVInternational Cinematographic Festival of Uruguay and the International Festival of Documentaries Del Sur / Spain.
