CEM Welcomes IUPERJ Researcher
Sociologist Celi Scalon, from the Rio de Janeiro Institute of Research (IUPERJ) arrives this month (August) to become a part of the CEM team for one year, as a visiting researcher.
Scanlon does research in the area of social mobility and comes to CEM to carry out a study on social stratification, inequality and poverty. Using as a starting point the 1991 and 2001 census, the researcher will observe how social classes separate themselves or encounter each other in the urban space and how goods and services are divided in the city of Sao Paulo. Celi Scanlon is the Brazil representative in the International Social Survey Program and editor of the books “Imagens da Desingualdade” (Images of Inequality) published by UFMG and “Gênero, família e trabalho no Brasil” (Gender Family and Work in Brazil), co-authored by Clara Araújo and published by the Getulio Vargas Foundation.
