CEM publishes study “Indicadores
Ambientais e Gestão Urbana: Os desafios para a construção da
sustentabilidade na cidade de São Paulo”
CEM publishes, in the beginning of 2009, the study Indicadores
Ambientais e Gestão Urbana: Os desafios para a construção da
sustentabilidade na cidade de São Paulo - an initiative of Sao
Paulo's Municipal Green and Environment Secretary (SVMA) with the
technical support of the Centre for Metropolitan Studies (CEM).
The book reveals the complexity of intraurban realities in the
city's territory, in which the heterogeneity of different regions,
usually observed in socioeconomical terms, also applies to the
diversity of environmental conditions.
A high level of variety in regard to the problems and
environmental pressures in the different urban spaces has been
verified in the city of Sao Paulo. The city and its metropolitan
region face a scenario nearly on the brink of sustainability's
limit because of the increase of urban imobility and also because
of the fact that several of the areas that deliver environmental
services are compromised. In addition to this picture, sum up the
uncertainties of global weather changes. The actual situation
leads obligatorily to the incorporation of new paradigms,
specially those regarding housing and transport.
