CEM is one of the new 'excellence' research centres selected by MCT/CNPq/FAPESP
The Centre for Metropolitan Studies (CEM) has been selected to join the newly created network of research centres for scientific and technological production, to be consolidated in the State of São Paulo by means of the funding program 'National Institutes of Science and Technology' made possible by the joint-collaboration of MCT/CNPq/FAPESP.
The partnership between the Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT), the National Council for the Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and the Fundação do Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP) aims the support of research projects with goals sufficiently bold, that justify a larger duration of funding and a broader corpus of participant researchers.
35 projects have been approved in the State of São Paulo; 5 of which being research proposals in Human Sciences areas. The new Institutes will hold a strategic position in the National System of Science and Technology, because of their thematic focus in each knowledge domain and, in addition to their high level of 'excellence', "will stimulate the scientific production of both São Paulo and Brazil, the development of knowledge applications and the academic formation of students", in the words of Carlos Henrique de Brito Cruz, scientific director of FAPESP.
